Ingredients
  

  • 5 cups flour
  • cups cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Cut in 1/2 cup cold butter and 1/2 cup shortening with a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together 5 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp salt.
  • In a small bowl, dissolve 2 tsp yeast in 1/4 cup warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add the yeast mixture and 2 cups buttermilk to the flour mixture. Stir until the dough comes together.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 3 to 4 times.
  • Roll the dough to 1-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  • Place biscuits on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!
