The Nutritional And Health Benefits Of Almond Milk

milk

milk

Almond milk is one of the best plant-based alternatives to cow's milk. This type of milk is very often chosen by people for health reasons such as soy allergies, lactose intolerance, or those who are on a gluten-free diet. For the consumer, it is a ?safe milk alternative'' which appears to be not only much tastier than cow's milk,  but also less caloric and produced without any animal products. That is why almond milk owes its growing popularity largely to those people who are eliminating animal-based products from their diet. Vegans, Flexitarians and Vegetarians are always seeking plant-based substitutes, and there is an incredible number of them. A plant-based lifestyle is becoming the norm for more and more people and dairy-free snacks are no longer ?only for vegans?, but also for people who simply want to improve their diets.

Did you know that only by swapping cows milk to almond milk each time you have a coffee, the calorie content of your daily coffee break will decrease significantly?

And that's just one of the many benefits of almond milk.

What else do we gain from this milk swap?

Moral Benefits

Let's start with the fact that we're not the only ones who will benefit. It?s worth looking at this from a global standpoint- any reduction in dairy consumption works in favour of cows. It's not just a matter of empathy, it's a matter of simple logic, when looking at information on how the dairy industry works it?s easy to see how disastrous it is to the health and lives of cows.

Of course, there is the option of choosing a product that is produced in an ?animal-friendly, local and organic farm but the unfortunate truth is that no matter where your dairy products are produced there will have been an element of suffering during this process. It may seem like a drop in the ocean, but as more and more people decide to take this step, the drops become a wave that can make a big difference. And, as you know, when there is no demand - the supply decreases.

The Health Benefits

Choosing plant-based milk certainly does good for the world. Now it's time for the karma to come back to you:) And it's coming back with great force! What superpowers does almond milk have? Here are 10 of the best benefits of drinking almond milk:

1. IT SUPPORTS YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT

Drinking almond milk helps lose weight and prevents you from gaining excessive weight due to the fact that it has fewer calories than cow's milk. Plant-based milk is highly recommended for people struggling with excess weight.

2. IT STRENGTHENS BONES

Almond Milk provides the body with 30% of the recommended daily amount of calcium, as well as 25% of the recommended amount of Vitamin D, which reduces the risk of arthritis and osteoporosis and improves immunity.

3. IT MAKES US YOUNGER 🙂

This plant-based milk contains Vitamin B2 which helps to maintain a proper level of skin hydration, it also strengthens hair and nails. Almond milk is also very rich in vitamin E, which is responsible for the ageing processes occurring in the body, and it also protects us from sun damage. Vitamin E is the so-called vitamin of youth, a strong antioxidant that protects us from cancer. It?s like taking a sip of youth and health mixed in with your daily coffee. ?

4. IT HAS A LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX, SO IT DOES NOT HIGHLY INCREASE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

This is why almond milk is a must for diabetics or people who are on a diet. Another fantastic benefit is that it reduces the risk of diabetes. Prevention is better than cure, this golden rule fits here perfectly.

5. IT IS IDEAL FOR PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM FOOD ALLERGIES.

As it is lactose and gluten-free people with food allergies can safely enjoy the taste of almond milk without giving up their favourite "dairy" foods. Their only requirement is to replace cow's milk with a plant-based version.

6. KEEPS YOU ON TRACK TO A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE.

Almond milk is very easy to introduce into your diet, when substituting cow?s milk for almond milk you will create plenty of healthy meals which automatically reduces the caloric content of each meal.

7. FACILITATES DIGESTION

Almond milk contains nearly one gram of fibre per serving, which is important for proper digestion. In addition, plant protein is more easily digested compared to milk protein. Almonds by themselves are alkalizing, or deacidifying, and help the stomach to digest.

8. IT HAS MANY VALUABLE NUTRITIONAL INGREDIENTS

It is full of minerals such as calcium, zinc, selenium, potassium and manganese. Drinking almond milk after exercise will also replenish your valuable electrolytes.

9. HELPS YOU FIGHT AGAINST HIGH CHOLESTEROL

Out of all cow's milk substitutes, almond milk is richest in healthy unsaturated fatty acids, such as Omega 3, which help fight cholesterol.

10. PROVIDES ENERGY

Although almond milk contains only 1 gram of protein per serving, it is rich in other valuable vitamins such as  B vitamins (riboflavin) and iron, which are responsible for the good condition of the body.

Taste and practical qualities

Almond milk is surprisingly similar to cow's milk in texture as it is velvety and thick. The taste, however, is definitely better it is sweeter with a nutty aftertaste. It?s so delicious it even appeals to the younger taste buds too 🙂

This in general causes it to be a great base for kids breakfasts and also for all recipes that call for milk. Pancakes, cakes, morning oatmeal will be just as delicious when made with almond milk. It froths easily and adds to the aroma. If you're a gourmet coffee drinker, it will work great as a creamer. The taste of your coffee will also change for the better, and if you are a fan of tea - Matcha Latte with soy milk is a taste that will certainly tickle your taste buds! The combination of aromatic green tea with almond milk is an energy and taste bomb. Almond drinks also taste good cold. If you add it to cocktails, drinks or desserts, you'll be treating yourself to an amazing culinary experience.

Almond milk also wins over cow's milk in the accessibility ranking because we can also make almond milk ourselves at home!

No need to buy expensive almond milk at the store,  it's not complicated at all! The satisfaction from preparing it ourselves will surely inspire us to share this skill with others too. 🙂 Using the recipe below, you can make your own homemade plant-based almond milk.

  • Soak 1 glass of almonds in 2 glasses of cold water overnight (approx. 12 hours). By soaking almonds in water, the skin softens and becomes much easier for the body to digest.

*You can also save 12 hours and skip point 1 by using pre-ACTIVATED NUTS, then you only need to:

  • Place the almonds in a blender or food processor, add 4 cups cold water and blend well. Strain thoroughly through a sieve lined with gauze. If necessary, dilute with water. Your own homemade Almond milk can be kept in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days.

And there you have it, your own almond milk is ready!

Are you ready to make the switch to Almond Milk? If you're still having a hard time saying goodbye to cow's milk, we recommend you use plant-based milk interchangeably. After a while, you will start to feel the health benefits and you will probably stop craving ?classic milk? altogether. This is just a small (yet victorious) step to your bigger goal!
